UPSC CIVIL SERVICE PRELIMINARY EXAM 2023 EXPECTED  CUT OFF:

For most UPSC Civil service examinees who have taken the exam on 28th may, 2023, it is an anxious wait for the next one month to find out, whether they will be eligible to appear at the next stage of examination, namely IAS Mains, 2023. This period of anxiety takes a heavy toll on preparation leading to an endless wait & also compromise on the level of preparation while appearing for the mains exam.

In the following article we will make sure, how to reliably find out the cut-off for a particular year, drawing particularly on our years of experience.

For purpose of discussion we have taken only Paper – 1, as the other paper is only qualifying .

We divide the total 100 questions based on difficulty level, and the possibility a student having covered a particular section of the syllabus leading to successful answering:

  1. Type 1 - Common topics & low depth – are those that are about recurring subjects, issues, themes, etc. these subjects are not highly complicated & require deeper understanding. In 2023 such questions numbered 49 questions.
  2. Type 2 - Common topics with a higher difficulty level - In 2023 such questions numbered 14 questions.
  3. Type 3 - Easy Questions from wider areas of the subject like science or biodiversity, which are too unwieldly – In 2023 such questions numbered 37 questions..

IAS VISION ANALYSIS

Our experience over the years has been, that cutoff has been at least (5-12)%, less than total of Type 1 questions, that means cut off will be below 93, according to our expectations for general category aspirants. Therefore aspirants who think they can score 93, should start preparing for ias mains 2023 & for others starting preparation for next year will be the right decision.
