Normandy Invasion, also called Operation Overlord or D-Day, during 2nd world war was the invasion by U.S., British, and Canadian forces on June 6, 1944 (the most celebrated D-Day of the war), of the mainland europe, which had remained out of bounds since 1941, which hitler and his allies controlled, except for neutral Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, and Sweden.

- In May 1940 France was invaded by German forces. Within a month France was defeated.
- Invasion of Russia by germany(Operation Barbarossa), which even though neutral till that time was seen as danger by hitler.
- Germany failed to achieve an outright victory in Russia and later lost, when second war front was opened.
