New Gold Reserves Discovered in China

A staggering 1,000 metric tonnes (1,100 US tonnes) of high-quality ore were discovered in Pingjiang County, located in the province's northeastern region in china, valued at Rs 7 lakh crore at present prices.

• The gold deposit could be the largest gold reserve to have been found so far.
• Earlier, the discovery of 930 metric tonnes in South Deep Mine, South Africa held the record for being the largest gold deposit to have been found.
• Preliminary surveys uncovered 40 gold veins extending to a depth of 2 kilometers, containing approximately 300 metric tons of gold.
• This discovery could revolutionise China’s gold industry, significantly enhancing its mining capacity and economic strength.
